Short speech on the topic of ‘Independence Day’

The 15th of August, for us Indians, is a no ordinary day. On this very special day, in the year 1947, India has hard-earned independence from the tyranny of the British rule. Every year since, this day is recognized as India’s Independence day.

Independence Day is celebrated annually on 15th of August as a public holiday in India. Also commemorating the nation’s independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947. It is the day when the provisions of the Indian Independence Act, which transferred legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly, came into effect.

On this day, India was broken free by our fierce and patriotic freedom fighters. Be it Gandhi, Tilak, or Bose, each one of them had a crucial role in India attaining it’s freedom and being the way we know it to be. We are only able to breathe in the fresh air of freedom because of their valiant efforts.

On 15th of August, 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. Every year since, on each Independence Day, the sitting Prime Minister raises the flag and gives a formal address to the nation as a whole. As per this custom, this 2023, the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoist the flag and address the citizens of India.

Let us all make use of this opportunity to commemorate Independence day and celebrate the freedom our freedom fighters earned for us through so much pain and struggle!
